Why I'm Running
Having grown up in Allentown as a first-generation Latino-American, I watched my parents work tirelessly to provide. Their sacrifices instilled in me the value of hard work, community, and opportunity. After earning a degree from Temple University, I returned home to build a career in construction management. Through my work in construction and service on local non-profits, I’ve seen how investing in our people creates real change. I’m running for City Council to ‘Build Up Allentown’— by expanding housing and infrastructure, strengthening community resources, and creating new pathways for opportunity. We have the privilege of living in a diverse city with people of all identities and backgrounds, and as a collective, we can continue to embrace Allentown as a place for us all.
We are living through unprecedented times and the stakes have never been higher. We need leadership that listens, acts, and believes in our city’s future. I’m ready to be that leader.
My Story
I grew up in Allentown as a first-generation Latino-American, the son of hardworking immigrant parents who sacrificed immensely to provide for me. From an early age, I watched them put in long hours and make difficult choices, always prioritizing me over their own needs. Like many others in our community who share similar stories, that dedication instilled in me the values of perseverance, responsibility, and selflessness—values that have consistently guided me throughout my life.
As a student at William Allen High School, I saw firsthand the challenges facing our public schools, from strained budgets to aging facilities and limited exposure to career opportunities. Despite these obstacles, I was fortunate to be surrounded by mentors and educators who encouraged my growth. Community involvement within the school was integral in forming my understanding of the opportunities available to me beyond high school.
After graduating in 2016, I moved south of the Lehigh Valley to attend Temple University in Philadelphia. A true melting pot of a school which emulated the community I'd had back home. My journey through college wasn’t linear. Like many students from working-class backgrounds, I faced setbacks—including stepping away from school for a year. That experience, though challenging, taught me the importance of resilience and the power of redefining success, not by the path you take but by the ultimate result. This led me to pivot my career path and eventually return to finish my degree in Construction Engineering Technology with a mission to ensure I could take my experience and assist others in their journey to overcome the obstacles of being a first generation college student.
During my time at Temple, I secured a life-changing internship at Alvin H. Butz, Inc. here in Allentown, which ultimately led to a full-time role as a Project Engineer overseeing construction projects in Secondary Education and Healthcare. Balancing school and work full-time was demanding, but it reinforced my deep appreciation for the built environment and the role that infrastructure plays in shaping communities. Working in construction has given me a unique perspective on how cities grow, the impact of development on residents, and the importance of planning for both economic progress and sustainability.
Beyond my professional life, I have been deeply involved in community service. I serve on several non-profit boards, including:
-
United Way Emerging Leaders Cabinet Member – where we help connect and develop rising professionals looking to make an impact in the Lehigh Valley.
-
William Allen Arts Alliance Board Member – supporting arts education and grant funding for students at my alma mater.
-
William Allen Enhancement Project Board Member – a non-profit that partners with Alvin H. Butz to introduce William Allen students to the construction industry and empowers them to improve their own school.
Through these roles, I have seen the power of investing in education, mentorship, and economic opportunity. My work with students has reinforced my belief that career pipelines and exposure to hands-on learning experiences are key to breaking cycles of poverty and creating pathways to success.
My experiences—both personal and professional—have shaped my vision for Allentown’s future. I believe in Building Up Allentown by expanding its access to affordable housing and infrastructure, strengthening our slate of community resources, and ensuring every resident has access to opportunity through intentional outreach. My journey has taught me that change doesn’t happen overnight, but with strong leadership and a commitment to equity, we can build a city that works for everyone. Everyone matters and it was the efforts of those before me that paved the way for me to be where I am. That is why it has, and always will be, my mission to stand up and be an advocate for our marginalized groups and our local immigrant community!
I’m running for City Council not just because I believe in Allentown’s potential—but because I have lived its challenges and have been blessed by its opportunities. My story is one of resilience, community, and determination, and I am ready to bring those values to City Hall.
